Frequently asked questions about copper-tungsten
Which copper-tungsten (WCu) grades are there?
Common grades are W70Cu30, W75Cu25, W80Cu20, W85Cu15 and W90Cu10 — the number is the tungsten content in percent (density approx. 14.2 to 16.75 g/cm³). More copper means better electrical and thermal conductivity, more tungsten higher thermal capacity and erosion resistance. W80Cu20 is the standard for EDM electrodes and electrical contacts.
Which WCu composition do I need?
Higher copper content = better conductivity, higher tungsten content = higher thermal capacity and erosion resistance. We advise on the right grade for your application.
Is WCu suitable for EDM electrodes?
Yes, WCu is a standard material for EDM electrodes, especially under high erosion.
